Andis 21420 Pro-Animal Detachable Ceramic Blade Clipper KitThe Andis 21420 Pro-Animal Detachable Ceramic Blade Clipper Kit will work well for owners who want a powerful set of clippers for regular grooming on their own personal pets and for those who don’t want to empty their pockets for a good set of clippers.  It cuts at one speed of 3700 strokes per minute using a rotary motor (rotary motors are very effective), which is powerful enough for a very smooth and clean cut for the more demanding coats.

It also comes with a ceramic blade, which is a lot more effective at keeping the dog clipper cool so it doesn’t burn your pet.  I wouldn’t buy these clippers for professional use where you’re grooming pet after pet, or for extremely heavy duty use for animals like horses.    Heavier duty clippers are a little more expensive and have an option to switch up to a faster speed.

Where To Buy?

I’d recommend buying these clippers from Amazon.com (check current discounted price) for a few different reasons.  First, it’s the cheapest place that I could find these clippers.  Second, you can get free shipping.  Third, there’s over 150 people that have left a review for these clippers, which suggests that many more have bought them from Amazon as well.

Is The Andis 21420 Pro-Animal Good For My Dog’s Breed?

These clippers are good for almost any kind of dog.  It comes with a size 10 ceramic blade and a few attachment combs that will do the job for many coats.  I have also poured over user reviews looking for dogs that have difficult coats like Chow’s, Poodles, and other matted coat dogs in order to make sure that users aren’t having a hard time.  Most of them have complete success using these clippers on tough dogs.  However, a few have had trouble for one reason or another, but don’t let that scare you.

Does It Run Hot?

Because the Andis 21420 Pro-Animal set of clippers has a ceramic blade and isn’t made for extremely heavy duty use, they are going to run relatively cool for you.  However, all clippers will get hot with extended and prolonged use.  This is unavoidable.  If you think you’re going to find yourself in this situation, you should buy a cheap cooling spray.

How Noisy Is It?

You can bet that these clippers are going to be much quieter compared to some of the more heavy duty clippers.  This is really nice for dogs who tend to be really jumpy at the sight and sound of  a motor near their body or ears.

How Well Does It Cut?

These clippers cut at 3700 strokes per minute.  Heavier duty clippers can cut from 4000 to 4300 strokes per minute at their higher range.  This isn’t a whole lot of a difference.  However, it can definitely make a difference if you’re performing a lot of back to back grooming or for extremely heavy duty use for horses and such.  These clippers can meet heavy demands, just not extremely heavy demands.

What Kind Of Blades Can I Use With It?

What’s nice about Andis clippers is that they are all compatible with Andis UltraEdge (steel) and CeramicEdge blades, which is an extensive collection.  You can also attach Oster A5 blades as well.  Ceramic blades do tend to be a little bit more expensive because of how cool they stay during grooming.

User Reviews

On Amazon.com, these clippers have more than 150 reviews with an average rating of 4.1/5 stars.  People really like these clippers because they offer great value for it’s price.  You can read all of them here. Here are some re-written pros and cons from those reviews.

“I bought this same set of clippers several years ago and they are still running strong, I’d recommend these to anyone.”

“Been using this for my poodle for nearly 6 months now, it works extremely well and I get tons of compliments about how well she looks.”

“I’ve tried 5 different set of clippers for my dog and these are the best and most reliable that I’ve used.”

“These work great for occasional use, but I wouldn’t use them for anything more than that.”

“Might be good for a dog with a lot less hair than my Shih-Tzu.”

I’d highly recommend these clippers for someone who doesn’t need to pay top dollar for a very heavy duty use set of clippers.  Don’t get me wrong, these clippers are very powerful, but don’t get these if you plan to use the heck out of them.  If you’re regularly grooming your own pets at home, then the Andis 21420 Pro-Animal Detachable Ceramic Blade Clipper Kit would be good for you.
