Andis UltraEdge AGC Super 2-Speed Animal Clipper

Rating: ★★★★☆

The Andis UltraEdge AGC Super 2-Speed Animal Clipper (22405 Model) is good for those who need and want a high speed professional clipper for professional use or for quick get-it-done grooming.  While these clippers aren’t meant for less noise or less heat, they are built for a quicker grooming session for dogs who aren’t sensitive to those conditions.  However, they still run pretty cool and quiet for their speed.  It runs at two speeds of 3400 and 4400 strokes per minute, you don’t have to keep it oiled or greased, and it has a locking switch so that the clipper doesn’t accidently turn off while you’re grooming, which wouldn’t feel so good for your pup if that happened.

Where Should You Buy?

I’d recommend Amazon.com (check current discounted price) where you can save around $30 and have it shipped to you for free.  Amazon also always has these in stock, where has your local pet stores probably won’t, and if they do, it’s way more expensive.  Many people have bought it from Amazon and I suggest you do, too.

Is It Good For My Breed?

Because of the blade size it comes with, these were made for smaller dogs with tougher coats, like miniature schnauzers.  However, with all the blade choices you can buy separately, they can easily be used for larger dogs as well, and many have.  These clippers are really powerful and yield some nice professional looking results, which doesn’t require you to have much grooming experience.  So, they’ll be good to use on any breed.  I’ve seen people use them on their German Shepherd’s and Labradoodles.

Are They Noisy And Hot?

The noise level is really not an issue for most dogs.  Heat can be a real issue with these clippers.  Now, most clippers get really hot after prolonged use.  If you think that you’re going to be struggling to groom your dog for longer than 30 minutes, then you can expect these to get really hot.  If you can get the job done quickly, you should have no worries about heat.  However, I’d recommend being smart and buy some cheap clipper coolant that you can spray it with in case they do get hot.  It runs about $4-$5.  Most people complain about heat issues instead of being smart about it.

If you have a little extra cash, buy a size 10 CeramicEdge blade, they stay cooler while cutting.  Also can be found on Amazon.

What Kind Of Blades Can I Use?

The nice thing about Andis clippers is that they have a gigantic selection of blades.  You can use all of their UltraEdge and CeramicEdge blades as well as some of the Oster A5 blades.  It comes with a size 10 UltraEdge blade, which works well for most dogs.  But, if you need something different, you can check out my blade guide on what may work better for you.

User Reviews

On Amazon.com, these clippers have over 80 reviews with an average rating of 4.2/5 stars, with most people commenting that they bought these clippers for their power, speed, and reliability.  You should read a lot of those reviews by clicking here.

Here are some rewritten pros and cons from those reviews

Pros

“I’ve actually been to grooming school, and I started out with a decent set of Oster clippers.  Eventually I had to get some new ones and got this one, the difference was night and day.  These are so much better.”

“I’ve got a couple Golden-Doodles, and their coats are beyond thick and they grow extremely fast.  These clippers run their coats pretty nicely, I’m glad I bought it.”

“My dogs need frequent grooming, so I didn’t want to spend more time than I need to during these sessions.  So I wanted to make sure I bought some fast clippers.  After doing a lot of research, I bought these.  Great investment.”

Cons

“Heat is an issue, although I just spray they down when I need to and they still work fine.”

“They do get hot, but I always use the attachment combs, so the blade never actually touches their skin.”

Conclusion – Andis UltraEdge AGC Super 2-Speed Animal Clipper

If you want a high speed set of clippers, that are meant for professional use, but can help you get the job done quicker at home for dogs that have really tough coats, then you should get the Andis UltraEdge AGC Super 2-Speed Animal Clippers along with a bottle of coolant spray.  It’s well worth it.
